Weekend update – intense heat…
It’s been REALLY hot. The patio has been well over 100 degrees.

Weekend Update – some sprinkles but no substantial rain
All of the Lettuces are going to seed and are inedible. I’ve pulled quite a few up already. The cucumbers are looking good. I’m really disappointed with the Potatoes ‘Yukon gold’. I’m not sure the plants have produced ANY potatoes. You’ll see in the pics that the tops of the potatoes are dead. I should have some potatoes… but so far I haven’t found any.

Weekend Update – Finally! some rain
At least enough rain to fill one barrel with water. I’ve also put out the bird netting on the tomatoes. Had two tomatoes pecked on. We got rain on Thursday. Today the aquifer has gone up 5+ feet!
The lettuces have all gone to seed and I’ve pulled up many of them. The other cool season herbs are either going to seed or dying (like the Dill).

Weekend Update – rain is SUPPOSED to be on the way
I’ll believe that when I see the water falling from the sky….
I’ve let most of the lettuces got to seed and even pulled up two of them to use for cucumbers.

Weekend Update – harvesting green beans
New info on the Blueberry. Pulled up the Spinach ‘Bordeaux’. Planted Summer Squash ‘8 Ball Green’. If you are having problems with a Bay Leaf take a look at the pic and the close up.

Weekend update – no rain, more heat and Leaf Miners…
I’ve got leaf miners on the Tomatoes, Green Beans and Squash. I haven’t found the bug/insect that is doing the leaf mining, but after doing some research it looks like there are several different things that can do the leaf mining. I’ve pulled up the Peas Shelling ‘Green Arrow’ and replaced it with an Okra ‘Burgundy’ . I also repotted one group of Onion ‘Texas 1015’. So far they don’t look real happy with being repotted. I’ve harvested the Spinach ‘Bloomsdale’ and have put the Cucumber ‘Bush Slicer’ in that pot. I pulled the Sorrel out of it’s pot and found that it had almost no soil. I’ve replaced the soil and it seems a little happier now. I’ve put a “plant nanny” on the Squash ‘Summer Baby Round Zucchini’ and Radish ‘French Breakfast’. With the Plant Nanny the Squash is not wilting in the heat of the day.
The Okra ‘Longhorn’ have not come up. So I don’t think the seed is viable.

Mid Week update
The Okra ‘Longhorn’ haven’t come up – at all. The neighbor I got them from said he only had 4 of 30 come up. So I’ve put some more of the seeds out. I’ve also put more Serrano ‘Jumbo Hidalgo’ seed out and more Summer Squash ‘Baby Round Zucchini’, Spinach ‘Summer Perfection’ also.
I’ve repotted the Tomato Bush ‘Better Bush’.
I mixed up some Ladybug Vortex potting soil, Medina’s Growin’ Green fertilizer and some Cornmeal.
Mixed it all together and planted the seedlings. I’ll water them in with Superthrive in the morning.
